It seems to me like all of life rushes at me with full force when I let it. The baby books tell me that one needs to protect infants from too much stimulation as their filtering mechanisms are not yet calibrated to deal with the sightssmellstastestexturessounds that bombard from the moment of waking, and sometimes even whilst still asleep.

As we grow up, mercifully, we learn to "edit out" the familiar so that we are focused on coping with the unfamiliar. This seems a good survival strategy. Yet, I find that the familiar has an incredible beauty that can easily be forgotten as I fling myself day to day into the currents of the raging floodwaters of responsibilitiesworkobligationsdutiesbudgetsmoneyfooddrinkadmin. A strange progression seems to take place......notice everything....notice only new things (of all kinds)...notice only a few new things...notice enough only to get through the day. I want to notice life. Know this life.
